Scarabeo 3 UWILD & Maintenance Project – July/Sep 2007

RRI PERSONNEL WERE INVOLVED IN THE UWILD AND SPECIAL SURVEY OF THE SEMI-SUB DRILLING RIG FOR SAIPEM IN 2007. THIS INVOLVED THE RE‐DESIGN AND
COMPLETE RENEWAL OF THE ANODE SYSTEM, INSPECTION, UT AND MPI, MARINE
GROWTH REMOVAL, SUB SEA WELDING, ROPE ACCESS ANODE WELDING, INSPECTION, PAINTING, ASSISTANCE WITH ANCHOR WIRE CHANGEOUTS, SURFACE INSPECTION, MPI AND UT.
THE FOLLOWING ARE A SELECTION OF PHOTOGRAPHS FROM THE PROJECT:

Surface welded connection of 75kg anode, with protective coating applied to anode tab.

Example of grit-blasted weld ready for photo inspection.

Example of a pontoon cleaned from marine growth to an uncleaned area of marine growth. Approx. 2000m3 were cleaned from hard corals and barnacles; greatly reducing the weight on the structure and also preventing further micro-biological corrosion.

Diver grit blasting ready for MPI on pontoon column leg welds.

Diver attaching blanking plate to clayton valve outlet to enable dry maintenance inside the valve.

Clayton valve cleaned with 2 nw 5kg anodes welded inside.

CSWIP 3.2U inspection diver performing MPI on leg to pontoon weld.

CSWIP 3.2U inspection diver performing UT on pontoon plate to assess the thickness of steel.

Example of welded connection for 75kg anode to hull.
